The Glow Wire Test Temperature For Surge Protective Device
Based on IEC 61643 clause 7.9.4, the glow wire tester is applied to ensure that an electrically heated test wire under defined test conditions does not cause ignition of insulating parts, or to ensure that a part of insulating materials, which might be ignited by the heated wire under defined conditions , has a limited time to burn without spreading fire by flame or burning parts or droplets falling down from the test part:
-For all other external parts made of insulating material, by the test made at a temperature of 650°C ±10 K,
The sample is regarded as having passed the glow wire test if:
-- flames and glowing part on the sample extinguish themselves within 30 s after the removal of the glow wire
