The glow wire test for circuit breakers for overcurrent protection for household and similar installations
According to IEC 60898 clause 9.15, to ensure that an electrically heated test wire under defined test conditions does not cause ignition of insulating parts, or to ensure that a part of insulating material ,which might be ignited by the heated test wire under defined condition, has a little time to burn without spreading fire by flame or burning parts or droplets falling down from the tested part, the glow wire tester is performed in accordance with clause 4 to 10 of IEC 60695 under following conditions:
- for external parts of circuit-breakers made of insulating material necessary to retain in position current-carrying parts and parts of the protective circuit ,by the test made at a temperature of 960±15°C
-for all other external parts made of insulating material, by the test made at a temperature of 650±10°C.
